RS Aqua has opened orders for the Porpoise Pod, a new multi-channel passive acoustic monitoring recorder developed in collaboration with Turbulent Research.

The system expands on the capabilities of its single-channel predecessor by offering four channels, designed to simplify multi-hydrophone deployments for researchers. The platform aims to provide increased acoustic insight for marine mammal monitoring and general underwater research without increasing field complexity.

To support long-term monitoring campaigns in demanding offshore environments, the Porpoise Pod is available with power configurations of either 36 or 84 D-cell lithium or alkaline batteries. The hardware is housed in a rugged casing of composite glass fibre and engineered plastics, allowing for extended sea deployments.

The device is built to withstand harsh conditions, featuring a 750m depth rating and an operational temperature range of −50°C to +50°C. This durability ensures reliable data collection during multi-channel recording projects in diverse climates.

Based in the UK, RS Aqua specializes in providing technical equipment for ocean science and environmental monitoring. Their partner, Turbulent Research, provides the core passive acoustics technology integrated into the Porpoise platform. The Porpoise Pod is now available for procurement through RS Aqua in the UK and Ireland.
