Underwater Electromagnetic Sensing & Imaging Solutions

CEDAR – state-of-the-art electromagnetic sensing and imaging technology

Our CEDAR (Controlled Electric Detection And Ranging) technology is inspired by the electrical sensory perception of tropical freshwater fishes, which use this unique capability to navigate, hunt prey, and communicate with each other in challenging environments where sight and echolocation are ineffective.

CEDAR generates a low-frequency AC electric field that is disrupted by objects in the near vicinity, causing changes in current intensity. These disturbances can be measured and used to characterize the underwater environment even in the murkiest of conditions.

Octopulse

Underwater imaging solution for subsea vehicles and fixed installations

Underwater imaging solution for subsea vehiclesOctopulse is a compact and lightweight imaging sensor based on our proprietary CEDAR technology, and is ideal for both underwater vehicles and fixed-site applications. The modular system utilizes an array of up to eight electrodes with cables up to 7 metres in length, and provides 360-degree real-time perception.

Seabed imaging solutionThe sensor provides highly effective detection, localisation and classification of both metallic and non-metallic objects as well as buried targets. It delivers excellent performance in noisy environments and high levels of sediment, and works in freshwater and saltwater environments as well as in air. With no moving parts, it requires very little maintenance and can be used for contactless characterisation of any kind of surface or material. The system’s low power draw makes it ideal for long-term deployments requiring little maintenance.

subsea imaging sensorThe export restriction-free Octopulse is provided as a complete kit comprising the sensor pod, up to eight electrodes and cables, and all necessary firmware and user interface software. It is currently available as a 300 metre depth-rated version, with a 6000 metre-rated version under development.

Tetrapulse ESENSE 300

World’s most compact subsea electric sensing solution

Tetrapulse is the smallest form factor implementation of our CEDAR biomimetic technology, and is the world’s most compact underwater electric sensor. The modular and low-power system utilizes and array of up to four electrodes and can be provided with cables ranging from 1.5 to 7 metres in length. It is ideal for a wide range of underwater vehicles and platforms as well as fixed-site installation.compact subsea electric sensing solution

The sensor provides highly effective detection, localisation and classification of both metallic and non-metallic objects, and can detect buried targets at depths of 1 to 2 metres. It is rated for operation at depths of down to 300 metres.

Applications

Survey & Monitoring

Survey & Monitoring
Thanks to its contactless detection and characterization abilities, Octopulse and Tetrapulse are ideal for underwater surveying and monitoring applications, including cable and pipeline tracking and oil and gas infrastructure maintenance.

Critical Infrastructure Security

Critical Infrastructure Security
With highly sensitive detection capabilities, our subsea electric sensors can be installed underwater to detect intrusion at critical port or waterway facilities such as docks, oil terminals, and nuclear power stations.

Archaeology & Salvage

Archaeology & Salvage
Octopulse and Tetrapulse can pick up metallic and nonmetallic objects on the sea floor or buried in the sediment, making them excellent solutions for surveying cultural heritage sites, structural remains and shipwrecks.

mine detection

UXO & EOD
Able to detect both ferrous and non-ferrous objects at depths of 1 to 2 metres, our subsea electric sensors support commercial and naval dive teams in clearing unexploded ordnance, mines and underwater hazards. Octopulse has recently been selected for NATO’s DIANA technology accelerator program.

ROV & AUV Navigation

Underwater Vehicle Navigation
With an effective detection range of up to 5 times the length of the vehicle, Octopulse and Tetrapulse can be combined with cameras and sonars for enhanced vehicle navigation and obstacle avoidance.
